The Land List Serial Number Project

Perhaps you've got an old Polaroid camera and wondered just how many more just like it rolled off the assembly line.

Well, I --and at least several other visitors to this site-- have at one time or another asked Polaroid Customer Service that very sort of question. At first, I figured the problem was simply that nobody at the Customer Service department actually knew the answer or how to get it (which is understandable-- it's really just a trivia question at best), but from what I'd been given to understand a few years ago is that Polaroid Corp. has a general policy not to disclose production numbers for their products.

However, there is a way to get a reasonable estimate of production numbers, using only information obtained through general observation using data available to every Polaroid camera owner.

Everyone who has an old Polaroid camera has one data point in this equation-- namely the serial number on the camera. Now the task is simply (?) to gather the data.

Here's where you come in!

If you have a Polaroid rollfilm camera or a folding packfilm camera whose model name/number is listed in the form categories below, please take a moment to fill in and submit one of the forms. All you have to do is select your camera model from the appropriate pull-down list, then type in the serial number from your camera in the "Serial Number" field, and click the "Submit" button.

It's simple and designed to be as anonymous as possible-- I'm not asking for your name or email address or any other information that would identify you, nor am I recording IP addresses or anything of that nature.

The more serial numbers that are collected, the more accurate any data derived from them will be.

Later, I will probably add more camera models to this project, but I'm starting with these two easily defined types for now.

Don't know where to find your camera's serial number? Check the main Serial Number Info page!
